Memphis – Graceland

We’ve never been big Elvis fans but Graceland is such a worldwide attraction that we had to see what it was all about. It’s not an inexpensive place to visit.

After a introductory film we were shuttled to the home which is not huge by today’s standards but very personal to Elvis. The home is preserved as it was when he lived here. He bought it in 1957 and loved entertaining family and friends.

The home is just the beginning at Graceland. There is a large museum displaying many items from Elvis’s career. There is one room just for cars. Another has boats. Another huge room displays his iconic costumes. Then there’s still another room dedicated to his legacy and all the artists influenced by Elvis. Some of those included Elton John, Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon who is quoted as saying “If there had been no Elvis there would be no Beatles”

We were thoroughly impressed by the quality of Graceland. We arrived only curious about Elvis and left with a deep appreciation of the man and his legacy.

Nice….and good to know. I also didn’t understand the big fuss about Elvis but went there as a kid since my older sister was dying to see it!

    Greetings travelers,

I’ve been to Nashville a few times but never did Graceland. Based on your comments I think I’d enjoy touring Graceland even though I’ve never been a big Elvis fan. Glad to hear that you’re enjoying your trip. We enjoyed ours and sure do miss the cooler temps of Shenandoah NP! It is supposed to be 103 here today! And either in the 100s or high 90s for at least a week here in Columbia. We are almost always the hot spot in SC! Keep us posted on your travels. We will be staying close to home for the foreseeable. Chelsea is scheduled for a c-section on the 29th. Her due date was 7/5 but they advised her to go with a c-section. We have the twins a lot this week so Chelsea can get some things done before her world gets a whole lot busier! Enjoy Nashville and keep us posted! If you can swing through Columbia on your way back to Florida we’d love to see you. We can fit you in our driveway! T&B
